The flu — also called influenza — is caused by a virus that causes local epidemics as well as epidemics throughout the world. In the United States, flu season typically begins in the fall. It's recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that everyone 6 months of age and older, with rare exception, gets an annual flu vaccine.

People 50 years of age or older are at higher risk for developing Pneumococcal pneumonia. This disease is not a cold or the flu but it’s an illness that is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, a common bacteria that can spread through the air from a cough or a sneeze or from close contact with an infected person. It is a serious illness that could lead to hospitalization or even death.
At Able Care Pharmacy and Medical Supplies we have the pneumococcal vaccine Prevnar13® available for our patients. This vaccine has been approved for adults 50 years of age and older for the prevention of pneumococcal pneumonia and invasive disease caused by 13 Streptococcus pneumoniae strains (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F).
